Mayor's Court Rights
You have a number of rights before this Court, which are listed below:
- The law requires this Court bring you to trial within thirty (30) days of the date you were charged.
- You have the right to have an attorney here at anytime and may have your case continued to obtain legal counsel.
- If the charge you are facing carries a possible jail term, you have the right to a jury trial in Mansfield Municipal Court.
- You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say may be used against you.
- If you are convicted of a traffic violation, a record of that conviction will be sent to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles and added to your driving record. You may receive points.
- If you are not a United States citizen, a conviction could result in your deportation or denial of citizenship, according to the law of the United States.
- You have the right to remain free on reasonable bond while your case is awaiting trial.
- A conviction of the following offenses may be used to make a second offense a felony:
- Menacing by stalking the same person
- Criminal child enticement
- Pandering obscenity
- Gambling/operating a gambling house of cheating
- Telecommunication harassment
- Endangering children
- Carrying concealed weapons
Maximum Penalties:
MM - minor misdemeanor: $150.00 fine, no possibility of jail time
M1 - Misdemeanor of the first degree: $1000 fine, 6 months in jail, or both
M2 - Misdemeanor of the second degree: $750 fine, 90 days in jail, or both
M3 - Misdemeanor of the third degree: $500 fine, 60 days in jail, or both
M4 - Misdemeanor of the fourth degree: $250 fine, 30 days in jail, or both
Passing a School Bus: $500 fine, no jail time
