Built in 1847, Oak Hill Cottage has seven gables, five double chimneys, and seven marble fireplaces. Louis Bromfield, native of Mansfield and Pulitzer-Prize winning author, played at Oak Hill as a child. His momories of the home were the basis for "Shane's Castle" in his 1924 novel, "The Green Bay Tree". Operated by the Richland County Historical Society, Oak Hill Cottage is considered to be the most perfect Gothic House in the United States.
